The LBCT tester in use.

The simple, fast yet accurate way of testing
the output of a Laser Beam for Collimation.

The photo above is of an actual test of the output laser beam for collimation. The test lens is a 10x Beam Expander Assembly.

Test setup and details.

The layout below shows the setup for testing the output laser beam for collimation, after it goes through the LBCT tester to the viewing screen. The positioning of the LBCT tester and Screen is not very sensitive.

Laser Beams Collimation Tester

More Optical Products

This new product is a simple, fast  yet accurate way of testing Laser Beams for Collimation and is available now from Scientific Products. This fine instrument is a precision testing tool used to check the collimation of laser beams, from the most complex system to a simple lens.  It is used with lasers, laser diodes and collimated optical assemblies within the UV-Visible-IR spectral range. The output beam sizes are from 3 mm to 50 mm for standard models and the larger sizes are by special order.

The way it works is: simply place the collimation LBCT-tester in the path of a laser beam, rotate it to approximately 45 degrees, to direct the beam perpendicular to the output laser beam, as shown in the photo layout.  Then, observe the interference pattern projected on a white card or screen.  When the output beam produces fringes that are oriented parallel to the reference line of the LBCT-tester the laser beam is collimated. That’s all there is to it!

If the fringes are not parallel to the reference line of the LBCT-tester the beam is either converging or diverging.  You will need to make adjustments to your laser beam source or beam expander to reorient the fringes parallel. The adjustments should be made while viewing the fringes on a white card or  screen.
